Price versus Value

If Starfish was a car it would be a Volkswagon Golf Diesel, if they were shoes, they would be Hush Puppies.

I know a long-married couple, Sam and Sarah, who have very different takes on value. Growing up wealthy, Sarah could afford to buy expensive, well-made shoes that would last for years. Growing up poor, Sam had only been able to buy the cheapest shoes he could afford — and keep on buying them, since they kept on falling apart within a few months. It’s easy for people like Sam to confuse price with value, where the lower-priced item turns out not to be the best value.

Most people understand the concept of value, especially when it comes to personal items like shoes and cars. However to more complex items like websites, people still try to pay as little as possible, mainly because they don't understand what they are buying and where the 'quality' lies.

To the untrained eye, the quality of a website isn't so easy to measure. However with Starfish, the difference is noticeable.

An important art is taking a 12 word sentence and turning into a 5 word sentence. We spend the time to turn long, wordy sentences in to short quick-to-read ones. Thats good copy.

Although our designs are creative, we are not a creative agency. We keep Flash animation to a minimum because the most important thing about a design is its ease of use and its ability to communicate. We do not throw away the message for short-termed creative excitement. Creative designs tend to be harder to manage and harder to customize as your core business message changes.
